As It Softens unfolds through gradual shifts in light, color, transparency, and form. Beginning with the recognizable structure of a lotus, the moving image slowly moves between clarity and abstraction, allowing edges to dissolve and new visual relationships to emerge over time.

Change within the work is deliberately restrained. Subtle transitions accumulate through repeated viewing as contours soften, colors drift, and details that initially seem stable begin to shift. The lotus remains present without remaining fixed, suspended between image, atmosphere, and movement.

Part of Dolphin Brown’s continuing investigation into duration as a compositional material, As It Softens considers what becomes visible when transformation is allowed to occur slowly. The work asks the viewer to remain with an image as it changes—not toward a final state, but through the experience of change itself.
